N.Z. BANDS CONTEST
PALMERSTON NORTH MAY WITHDRAW PARENT BODY WANTS TOO MUCH [Per United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N„ September 18. The 1934 brass band contest will be no more than a glorious might have been so far as Palmerston North is concerned unless the Now Zealand Brass Bands Association sees fit to modify its present dictatorial policy towards the local Contest Committee. At a meeting of the latter body to-night it was unanimously decided that the committee should wash its hands of the whole affair unless the New Zealand body is prepared to withdraw from its stand with regard to finance. Every member of the committee was of the opinion that the claims of the association wore grossly unfair. At a previous meeting it was resolved to hold the contest only on the basis that the parent body should receive 10 per cent, of the net profits, with a miximum of £SO, and not £SO and 10 per cent, of the profits, as suggested.
