LAW STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL DINNER The annual dinner of the Otago University Law Students’ Association was held in Lake’s Restaurant. Mr J. H. Kemnitz (president of the association) presided over an attendance of some fifty members of the legal profession, students, and others. The Chairman extended a welcome to Mr W. .1. Morrell, the new Chancellor of the University of Otago, and expressed the wish that his term of office as Chancellor would he happy and prosperous. The toast of “ The Bench and Bar ” was proposed by Mr J. C. Mowat, who referred to the sterling integrity of the New Zealand judges and magistrates, and the capability of the members of tho New Zealand Bar. The toast was responded to by Mr C. L. Calvert, vicepresident of the Otago Law Society. The toast of “ Alma Mater ” was proposed by Mr I. B. Stevenson, and was responded to by the Chancellor (Mr W. J. Morrell) who stated that it was apparent that the members of the Law Faculty did not have before them the single objective of passing examinations, bub that they wore taking a wide interest in other activities, which was essential in every public man. Mr J. D. Neil proposed the toast of “ The Lecturers.” and Mr C. B. Barrowclough replied. The toast of “ Kindred Faculties,” proposed by Mr M. Joel, and was responded to by Mr Norman Davis, of tho Arts Faculty, and the toast of “ The Law Faculty.” was entrusted to Mr E. J. Anderson, whose reminiscences of tho Faculty in tho Groat War decade were {nil of interest, the toast being responded to by Mr J. B. Callan, dean of the Faculty. During the evening enjoyable items were rendered by Mr W. A. Race (tenor solo), Mr R G. Napier (musical monologue), Mr E S. Tuckwcll (baritone solo), and Mr L. F. Moller (humour). 'Hie accompanist was Dr H. J. Finlay, of Gisborne, who is visiting his parents in Dunedin.
