WORK OR NO WORK.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Cr Munro, replying for the Reserves Committee, said: “ Personally, he would not like to see the unemployed working at all; he would like to see them getting the dole.” So here we have another of those in authority favouring a straight-out payment in preference to the degrading system of relief work. It is to bo hoped that such will at least be given a chance, and then, and then only, shall we find out whether the unemployed will lose their self-respect; but one thing is absolutely irrefutable, and this is the claim I previously put forword: That the unemployed will get more money, and this is the main point at issue.—l am, etc., P. Neilson. September 14.
