ROWING

QUEEN’S DRIVE CLUB Mr Dodds presided at the. annual raeet : u. of the Queen’s Drive Boating Club, held last night. The president (Mr J. H. Crawford), owing to a recent accident, was unable to be present. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr W. J. Wilson congratulated the club on its healthy state and the comprehensive report placed before members. The club had been successful in winning the interclub' eight race, but it was very satisfactory for the office-bearers to know that the club would hold the trophy for a year. The committee, be thought, had neglected the club races to some extent by holding these events so late in the season. The races should be held earlier, as this would give the selectors a better opportunity to select the right crews. He also congratulated the club on its sound financial position. There were few rowing clubs in the dominion w’hich could show such a healthy credit balance. The club was also to be congratulated in having such worthy oarsmen as Messrs G. Clark, L. Fountain, and D, Mathieson included in the Otago eight-oar crew which had again won the dominion championship at Wellington this year. A great responsibility had been placed on the shoulders of Mr Clark as stroke of the crew, and his remarkable work in the last race had claimed attention in the rowing world throughout New Zealand. The members of the club were to be highly commended for the care and attention they had given to the plant, which was in very fine order. In conclusion, Mr Wilson said it would be necessary for the club to conserve the funds, as the depression had not yet lifted. It was hoped that the members would enjoy another successful season. He. wished to say that Mr D. C. Clark, who won the aggregate medal for the second successive season, had shown a fine sporting spirit when ho handed the trophy to Mr K. Osborne, who secured second place. The report afid balance-sheet were adopted. A letter was received from Mr T. R. Wright congratulating the members on their success during the past season. He wished them every success for the coming season. The following office-bearers were elected President, Mr N. Dodds; vice-presidents—Messrs R. A. Ward, F. Wilson. W. Leftwich. W. E. Wilson, J.
