W. Coupland, and he applied for the allocation of the coach (F. T. Badcock) to his club, the senior eleven of which would include some promising boys.—Referred to incoming committee. The Secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council advised that tho biennial conference of special delegates would be held on November 8 and tho annual 'meeting of tho council on November 9.—lt was decided that Otago b© represented at the conference, two delegates to be appointed later. It was decided to send a letter of congratulations to the Otago Women’s Hockey Association on the success of the Otago team at the New Zealand championship tournament. It was decided to hold -the annual meeting of the association on Wednesday, September 27. SHIELD CRICKET TEAM’S LOSSES. Tho forthcoming transfer to Christchurch of R. W. Coupland marks the third defection from, last year’s Otago: Plunket Shield winning team, the others who have gone north being D. Smith to Canterbury and T. Chettleburgh to Wellington. Coupland was one of the mainstays of the Dunedin Club, and a decidedly _ useful allrounder in the Otago Shield team —a punishing batsman and a good bowler, whose figures did not always flatter him. Coupland has been one of Otago’s most popular cricketers, and prior to representing this province played representative cricket for Southland and Wanganui. He put up a fin© bowling performance for Southland against Gilligan’s M.C.C. team, which was greatly impressed by Coupland’s bowling. While in the service of the New Zealand Government Tourist Department in Melbourne Coupland played senior cricket there, and he has also played in Christchurch.
