FRIENDSHIPS RENEWED

MACHINE GUNNERS' REUNION Friendships made in the mud of France and on the sands of Egypt were renewed on Saturday evening, when members of the New Zealand Machine Gun Corps held a reunion in the Otago Officers’ Club room. There was a most satisfying attendance of old machine gunners, and Mr Keith Cameron presided. The Chairman extended a sincere welcome to those present, many of whom had travelled considerable distances to attend. There were old soldiers present from Ashburton, Central Otago, and many other districts. A number of apologies were received in addition to telegrams and letters of congratulation from all over New Zealand, including all tbe senior officers of the corps. After the loyal toast and that of “ Fallen Comrades ” had been honoured the evening was given over to musical items and the relating of wartime experiences and stories. The usual issue of “ S.R.D.” was made out of serried water bottles at the rate of “ one nose cap per man.” During the evening items were contributed by Messrs Satterthwaite, T. J. Kirk-Burnnand, G. Currie, and D. J. Halclen, while Mr A. Smith amused the company by reading ‘ Routine Orders,’ which dealt with many celebrities of the corps, and touched the weak spots of many of the members.
