FOREIGNER INSULTED

AMERICAN LADY IN PEKING

PRIVATE SECRETARY TO AMERICAN MINISTER

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright

PEKING, September 5. Foreigners are highly indignant at an attack by Japanese soldiers upon Miss Argucllo, private secretary to the American Minister. _ Miss Argucllo was riding round a glacis, surrounding the Legation quarter, when the Japanese, having decided, without warning not to allow their section to bo used for horseback riding, stopped her, at the same tune handing her an unsigned note forbidding trespass. Miss Arguello continued to ride, and returned surrounded by soldiers with fixed bayonets. One threw a largo stone at the pony, while others struck her arm, snatched her riding cane, and seized the bridle, attempting to pull her off the pony. She was saved from further violence by the intervention of the French commandant.
