COMPETITIONS FESTIVAL

THIS MORNING'S SESSION Two vocal sections brought the competitive part of the festival to a close to-day. One of these was completed this morning, with the following results:— VOCAL SOLO, under IS, own selection. Loxie Mathieson, 82 1 llai M'Nicholl, 81 2 11. W. Watkins, 80 3 Highly commended: Natalie Hall, Lorraine Scott, G. H. Grimsdale, Maureen Phillips, T. Neilson (Timaru), Nancy Dickinson, Gwen Dewhirst, Norma Brown, Olive Biggs, Margaret Pratt, S. Esquilant, Lila Murdoch, Patricia Johnson, P. Rylance. Also competed: Joyce Smith, Olga Paul, Billy Preese, M. Cumberbeach, H. Claridge, Ruth Miller, Lily Shrimpton, Anita Pi’octor, Andrew Mundie, Lesley Walker, M. Walker, Joy Knowles, Clara Neale, James Murray, E. A. Duncan, Ivan Douglas, Rex Elmes, Jean Caldor, Margaret Robb, and Betty M'Cracken. The solo for ladies who have never won a prize at previous festivals was heard this afternoon. SPECIAL PRIZE. The special prize of a rug offered for the highest aggregate marks of competitors between 12 and 16 resulted in a tie between Miss Lydia Henderson and Mr R. S. MTCenzie, 452 points each. DEMONSTRATION CONCERTS. ■ This afternoon a special matinee was held at His Majesty’s Theatre, when a selected programme consisting of the most attractive children’s items was presented by prize winners. Another attractive programme will be presented this evening, comprising spectacular ballot by the Otago School of Dancing, items by the Green Island Church Choir, and Messrs Sargood, Son, and Ewen’s Choir, half-hour entertainment (‘ The House With the Twisty Windows ’), and several of the most interesting items heard during the festival. _ Vocal sections will be judged at the theatre this morning, and_ at Burns Hall this afternoon. A special matinee will be held to-morrow afternoon, and the final demonstration concert in the evening, when another excellent programme will bo presented.
