WORLD'S SCULLING TITLE
PEARCE V. PHELPS Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. TORONTO, August 30. (Received August 31, at 10 it.m.) With the world’s professional sculling title at stake Pearce and Phelps have concluded their training alvaiting Friday’s gun. Both are reported to be in the pink of condition and anxious to match blades over the Canadian National Exhibition course. Pearce today was a substantial favourite over his lighter rival, but experts ate noncommittal as to his chances. Pearce said to-day that he was hopeful the exhibition officials would agree (to his request that the string buoys placed down the centre mile of the long course would be removed. _ '■ “ It is quite unprecedented in championship sculling,” said Jim Rice, Pearce’s coach. “If Bob is forced to keep to the centre of the course rawing up and down that breakwater course ho will have to put up with whatever wind there is. Phelps will be protected, as lie can run along under hover of the sea wall, and if Bob strikes his oar just onco on one of these luoys it will bo the end.”-
