'THE PERFECT LADY'
BRITISH COMEDY DRAMA FOR GRAND A British comedy-drama, entitled ‘ The Perfect Lady,’ will be one of the attractions at the Grand Theatre tomorrow A charming Continental actress, Betty Amann, and Moira Lynd, a recent “ discovery,” enact the principal roles in ‘ The Perfect Lady,’ a product of the Elstreo Studios, England. The story, which is essentially a romance, deals with the exploits of an English society girl, Lady Anne Burnett, who, in order to test the fidelity of her fiance, impersonates a maid in the household of an unscrupulous musical comedy actress, notorious for her many “ love ” affairs. Numerous amusing incidents follow in rapid succession before the picture is brought to a happy conclusion. As Lady Anne, Miss Lynd is most convincing, and reveals herself as an accomplished player. Miss Amann skilfully portrays the musical comedy actress, while other prominent parts are taken by Harry Wileoxon, Frederick Lloyd, Athene Seyler, and Reg. Gardiner. The last-mentioned player, as a foppish young English nobleman, is responsible for much of the humour in the film. Although primarily a drama, there are many moments of comedy in ‘ Potiphar’s Wife,’ another British picture which wj’l be seen on the same bill. The spice of humour is supplied by Ronald Frankau, the outstanding radio entertainer, m the amusing role of Major “ Tony ” Barlow, and Guy Newall, as the Hon. Mautiee Worthington. In the picture they are the guests of Lady Branford, and arc seen carrying on love affairs with each other’s wives. In consequence of this. Lady Branford is left very much in the cold, and to amuse herself she attempts to seduce the chauffeur, played by Laurence Olivier.
