QUEEN CONTEST

NO CHANGE IN FUG POSITIONS At noon to-day the relative positions of the flags representing the rival queens showed no change.

CIVIC QUEEN The Civic Queen dance last evening in the Concert Chamber proved a most successful and enjoyable function, and justified itself as a preliminary event to the coster ball to be held on September 13. The Melody Makers’ Orchestra provided the large number of dancers with enjoyable music. Mr Harvey and Miss Mains were the winners of the lucky-spot dance, and Mr and Mrs W. Turnbull secured the prize for the Monte Carlo dance, the prizes being tickets for the coster ball, donated by Mr F. \V. Mitchell. The Ladies’ Dance Committee is to be congratulated upon the tasty and enjoyable supper which it provided, and altogether the function, which was entirely in the hands of the members of the E.P. and L. department, was the means of adding considerably to the funds of the Civic Queen. SPORTS QUEEN The Sports Queen Committee met last evening, when encouraging reports for all future events were received. The bowlers’ blazer ball promises to be as jolly and bright as the mad hatters’ dance. Provision for card playing will be made, and anyone wishing to have a quiet game may come along to a room comfortably warm. They will be able to see all the fun and also receive supper. On Saturday evening a large crowd is expected at the cabaret at St. Clair, and this, in addition to the football match, should raise the Sports Queen’s flag. SERVICES BALL Considerable comment is occasioned by tho competition which is being run in connection with the services ball. Not only will dancers participate in the competition, but spectators also will compete for the big prize. To further stimulate interest the committee is making this a “ mystery ” prize, the exact nature of which will 1m revealed next week. In the meantime tickets arc selling well, and great interest in this unusual ball is apparent.
