THE MORNING SESSIONS The Dunedin Co m petitions festival was resumed this _ morning, the elocutionary sections being taken at the Concert Chamber, and at His Majesty’s Theatre the piano solo (amateurs, own selection) and piano duo (two pianos, four hands, open to all) were heard. The morning results:— RECITATION, girls, 11 and under 14, ‘ A Child’s Rhyme ’ (Eileen Duggan). Second section. Miss Patricia Johnson, 82 points ... 1 Miss Gwen M. Graham and Miss Dorreen Sapsford, 81 points, equal 2 Miss Edith Lunam and Miss Matty Hall, 80 points, equal 3 Also competed; Misses Marjorie M'Taggart, Doreen Munro, Elsie Kirkham, Deslys M'Kenzie, Adele Marks, Joy Watts, Claire Neale, Gwynneth Watson, Evelyn King, Christine Wallace, Mavis Conley, Molly Hancock (Christchurch), Nyra Pettet, Ruth White, Joy Ferens, Alwyn Nicol, Laura Shrimpton, Lila Murdoch, and C. M'Lauchlan. RECITATION, competitors 10 and under, own selection, not humorous. Third section. Miss Sylvie Bean, 82 points 1 Miss Marjory Rhodes, 81 points ... 2 Master Desmond Fay and Miss Sheila Ferguson, 80 points, equal 3 Highly commended: Misses Dawn Knowles, Lilian Scott (Balclutha), June Donaldson, Master Frank Ponton, Misses Irene Scott, Gloria Cameron, Winifred Sanderson, Shirley V. Kroon, Zelda Morris, June M'Call, and Leone Stark. Also competed: Misses Nina Hawkins, Velma Wells, Betty Lydiate, Master Robert Taylor, Miss Edith Wallace, Master Murray Pinfold, Misses Mary Lydiate and Jean Race, Master G. R. Highet, Misses Shirley Broad, Edna Johnston, and Valmai Sturgess. PIANO SOLO, amateurs, own selection. The competitors in the first section were: Miss Rita E. Lowe, Mr B, Matthews (Mandeville), Miss Isabel Dawson (Oamaru), Mr Vincent M'Govern, Mrs C. H. Westland, Miss Marion Hayward (Christchurch), Mr Stanley White, Miss Isabel Gillies, and Miss Jessie Jackson. The second section will he taken tomorrow morning, and the final to-mor-row evening. PIANO DUO, two pianos, four hands,, open to all, ‘ The Harmonious Blacksmith’ (Handel). The recalls were: Master R. Brown and Miss Eliza Irwin (Invercargill) and Misses Nellie Pickett (Palmerston) and Muriel Ironside. Third place was awarded to Misses Isabel and Florence Gillies. _ Also competed: Misses Reina Wright (Palmerston) and Hazel Lang (Waikouaiti), Misses Joyce Scoble and E. Harris, Misses Blanche Errington and Jentie Bishop (Balclutha), and Misses Nancy Rutherford and Joy Rae. Final to-night. TO-NIGHT’S PROGRAMME. Some very attractive competitions will be heard at His Majesty’s Theatre this evening, including the firms’ choir contest, church choir contest, piano duo (‘The Harmonious Blacksmith’), elocutionary scholarship for girls, dance duo, children’s action chorus, children’s duet, humorous character sketch, ballet dance, song for girls, humorous recitation, and Welsh folk song. Tomorrow morning a bass duet (‘ Rose Petals ’) and piano solos. (own selection) will bo heard, and in the afternoon there will be the gentlemen’s vocal scholarship section, national Scotch or Irish song. .
