Forecast. The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the Southern district—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— The anti-cyclone mentioned yesterday still covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand, but has decreased somewhat in intensity, barometers having fallen about, a tenth of an inch. The highest pressure is over the South Island. A depression has reached eastern Australia. Forecast: Northerly winds, moderate, but gradually freshening. Weather, fair to cloudy, and milder, but showers developing later on the coast. Seas, moderate. SAlLED.—August 29. Totara, s.s. (4.30 p.m.), 421 tons, Eden, for New Plymouth via ports, Titoki, s.s. (5.10 p.m.), 625 tons, Pearson, for Tauranga via ports. Holmdale, s.s. (11 p.m.), 681 tons, for Wanganui via ports. While at Auckland last week, the Greek tanker Iririi had repairs to her engines carried out. The Totara left here last night for New Plymouth via ports, and was followed an hour later by the _ Titoki, which is bound for Tauranga via ports. The Holmdale sailed late at night for Wanganui via ports. Expected in this afternoon, the Port Whangarei brings cargo from the north for discharge here, and in addition carried transhipments ex Port Waikato. The Port Whangarei is to sail to-night for Tauranga, Auckland, and Whangarei via ports. Case oil is to be discharged here to-morrow from the coastal tanker Pana. The John is to load at this port tomorrow for Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Waikato via ports. The Wingatui is to leave Lyttelton late this afternoon for Dunedin, where she is duo to-morrow afternoon to discharge northern cargo. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.45 this morning, and passengers and mails connected with the south express. OPAWA IN PORT. The motor ship Opawa arrived at Dunedin this afternoon from Liverpool via northern ports to discharge find load cargo. She berthed at the Victoria wharf. The Opawa next calls at Lyttelton to continue loading. WAINUI LEADING MELBOURNE. The Union Company’s Wainui is to leave Melbourne to-day week for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington. She is duo here on September 12 to discharge portion of her cargo. WAIRUNA LEAVES SUVA. .The Union Company’s Wairuna left Suva on Friday with raw sugar for Vancouver. She will then load at Pacific Coast ports early in October, clearing Los Angeles on October 7 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australia. PERSONAL. Mr J. W. M'Gill has joined the Poolla as second engineer, relieving Mr L. B. Clark. Commander M. <l. Sarson has been appointed to the 11.M.5. Ormonde, which sailed from London on August 19. THE PORT GISBORNE. The C. and D. motor ship Port Gisborne is to sail from London on October 11 for Port Chalmers and Lyttelton. She is due at Port Chalmers on November 23.

PURCHASE OF STEAMER FOR INTERCOLONIAL TRADE.

A Press Association message from Wellington states that the Sydney shipping firm H. C. Sleigh has purchased the Norwegian steamer Nord for the purpose of engaging in trade between Australia and New Zealand. The Nord is a vessel of 2,042 tons, and is at present on route from Europe to Melbourne with a cargo of Baltic timber. On completion of her discharge in Australia she will be transferred to the intercolonial cargo service. The Nord, which will be renamed the Abel Tasman, was formerly known as the Mont Blanc, and was built at Ambacht, Holland, in 1916.

RUAHINE’S LOADING. The liner Ruahine will load in New Zealand, commencing during discharge at Port Chalmers on September 8. She will later complete at Lyttelton, Napier, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Auckland. The vessel is scheduled to clear Auckland finally on October 7 for London, Avpnmouth, Liverpool, and Glasgow. PHOSPHATE CARGOES. The steamers Nolisement and llhymuey, of the Morel Line, are now en route from the Seychelles to New Zealand ports with full cargoes of phosphates. The Nolisement has about 7,000 tons to discharge at the Bluff, while the Rhymney has about the same amount for Dunedin and Auckland. Last season the Passat and Winterhude brought cargoes from the Seychelles to Auckland. MARIPOSA’S PASSENGERS.
