RECORD COMMUNITY SING
COLLECTION EXCEEDS £23 The wet weather kept many people in the city during lunch hours to-day, and consequently an exceptionally large attendance was present at the Empire Theatre for the thirteenth community sing of the season. The “ thirteenth ”• was far from unlucky, the circle having to be thrown open for the record attendance. Even with that greatly increased seating accommodation many had to stand. The singing was very bright, tho leader (Mr H, P. Desmoulins) keeping the audience amused. The hymn test between Christchurch and Dunedin, judged by the anonymous donor of the prize, was easily won by Dunedin. Additional attractions were the solos of Madame Margherita Zelsnda and the organ selections by Mr Knight Barnett. Miss Rita Holmes gave commendable assistance as the accompanist. The collection and proceeds from the auctions amounted to £23 5s 6a,- and when further contributions come to hand the proceeds will easily constitute a record, . , •
