WALKER’S FIRST DEFEAT
DISQUALIFIED Hi BOUT WITH VARGA [Per United Press Association.l WELLINGTON, August 24. A crowd of record dimensions in the Wintet Show Stadium this evening witnessed George Walker's first reverse of the present wrestling season. In the fifth round of a contest with Count Josef Varga, when the Jionours were even with a fall apiece, Walker dumped the Hungarian over the ropes.. He was warned by the referee, but a few seconds later be repeated the barred dump and was disqualified. The preceding rounds were evenly contested, but contained little to remove them from the commonplace. Walker’s showing was disappointing, and neither man seemed disposed to force the pace. The New Zealand champion's wrist was bandaged, and in the fourth and fifth rounds the tender spot appeared to be causing hirti discomfort. Both falls were taken with surprising ease. In the second round, after a scries of chancery throws, Varga pinned Walker with a simple headlock and press. In the third round Varga submitted to a hainmerlock within 25sec of the bell. The final decision met with a mixed reception, the crowd demonstrating noisily for. some minutes. RUMBERG BEATS PEREIRA [Pint United Press Association.] NELSON, August 25. Hal Rumberg defeated A 1 Pereira by two falls to one. Rumberg obtained a fall in the third round with a body press, following a flying body sdtssors. Pereira evened in the fifth with a press after a series of flying tackles. The bout canio to an end in the sixth round, when Rumberg sprang back off the ropes and crushed his opponent beneath him for the deciding fall.
