(Received August 25, at 2.30 p.m.) The veteran Australian boxer George Cook was awarded the verdict in the thirteenth of a fifteen-round bout at Liverpool against the German. Ernst Geuhring, who was disqualified for a low punch. Geuhring had earlier been cautioned and told to keep his punches higher. The fight was marred by excessive clinching. Cook was aggressive, but was frequently checked by the German playing for the body. N.Z. BASKETBALL TOURNEY CANTERBURY BEATS OTAGO [Per United Press Association.] GISBORNE, August 25. Canterbury defeated Otago, the New Zealand cup-holders, 18-11, after a fast game at the basketball tournament this morning. Poverty Bay, 27, easily defeated Marlborough. 16; South Canterbury 17, defeated Manawatu 11; Wellington, 19, defeated Hawke’s Bay, 10. The defeated teams in each instance showed improved play, but were unable to outlast the vigorous play of their opponents, N.Z. In this _ morning’s match, C. section, Bush maintained its unbeaten record, defeating Wairarapa A, 3-2, being 2 up at half-time. Bush was the better team throughout. The scorers were: Bush—D.
