SANDERS CUP DISPUTE
AUCKLAND PRESS VIEW BICKERING DEPRECATED (Special to the ‘Star.’] AUCKLAND, August 25. The Auckland ‘ Star ’ to-day concludes an editorial on the Sanders Cup thus: “As to government of the races bv the New Zealand body, Auckland is entitled to point-out-that it is the largest yachting _ centre; but the principle., of dominion control should be conceded. It operates in every sport, and yachtsmen will not be content to compete in contests in the management of which they have no voice. All Auckland yachtsmen wish to see this trouble _ settled, and it is by no means certain that the _ policy of the local association meets with general approval. There have been differences with the south before, and they have been amicably settled. Cannot the present differences be settled in the same spirit? These races are sailed in memory of an heroic seaman, who lost his life in the struggle for ideals held in common, and this fact cries shame on such quarrelling. Better put the cup away than have it sullied by bickerings or 'by any decline from the truly national nature of the contest.
