THE EVEREST CLIMBERS
EXPEDITION TO BE RECALLED FAILED TO REACH OBJECTIVE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, June 28. (Received June 29, at 11 a.in.) The ‘ Daily Telegraph ’ announces that the Mount Everest Committee has decided to recall the expedition. No doubt the expedition is anxious to go on, but the committee feels that it is not justified in allowing it in view of the enormous strain the men have undergone in the last eight weeks. The danger of avalanches, the difficulty in keeping the porters together during the weeks of waiting, and the fear of high winds and snowdrifts alone suffice to prevent climbing after the monsoon. There is no blinking the fact that the party failed to reach its objective, but is retreating in good order.
