A PROMINENT MISSIONARY

REV. W. N. BITTON VISITS DUNEDIN Tiic Rev. Win. Nelson Bitton, home secretary of the London Missionary Society, is to arrive in Dunedin by tomorrow afternoon’s train. Mr Bitton lias been visiting Australia and Samoa in connection with the work of the society in whoso interest he will tour New Zealand. He will speak at a public meeting in the Moray Waco Congregational Church Hall at 7.30 tomorrow evening, to which the public is invited. On Sunday he will occupy the pulpit of the United Congregational Church in the morning and of the Congregational Church, Moray place, in the evening, which service will be broadcast from 4YA. Full particulars of Mr Bitton’s engagements appear in our advertisement columns. The coming of Mr Bitton to this city will enable its citizens to bear a man of wide thought and experience, duo largely to his important association with the society ho represents. He is a speaker of great interest, and

has been reported in the Australian Press as having brought a new point of view to many topics of interest and importance associated with the world of to-day. His presence and addresses at the recent centenary meetings of Congregationalism, held in Sydney, gave great incentive to wider thinking and seeing, and stimuatod every audience. Before taking up the position of home secretary in London in 1914 Mr Bitton was in China, where, amongst other activities, he was associate-editor of the ‘ Chinese Recorder.’ Mr Bitton has also written several books contributing much valuable help to students and readers of Chinese-problems. In religions matters he is a man of the broadest conceptions and deepest convictions, always blending the call of tho mission field with the need of more intense churchmanship at tho home base. his wide outlook was tho reason why, ho was chosen to represent the London Missionary Society’s China missionaries at the great World Missionary Conference held in Edinburgh in 1910.
