Just before the Wanganella was duo to sail at-noon to-day fifty police, some in mufti and others in uniform, with Customs officers, boarded the ship and began to search for £1,300 in silver which was believed to he on board, llu; departure of the vessel was delayed till 4.45 p.m. About £7OO was collected, this being in the possession of several members of the crew, four of whom were arrested. The money is not connected with the reported disappearance of £BOO in Wanganui last week. ... Juno 9. Four members of the crew of the Wanganella were charged before Air Page, S.M., with attempting to export silver in excess of £2. The names and the amounts they are alleged to have attempted to take are; James Frceston (steward); £252 11s; James Boyne (seaman), £26; Henry Morgan (hairdresser), £200; Douglas Jack Strath (fourth officer). £62 12s 6d. The Crown Prosecutor asked for a remand, and this was granted. Bail was fixed at £SO in the case of each accused, with one surety.
