NO TROUBLE

STATED? FOR WEST COAST MINERS [Per United Press Association.] GREYMOUTH, May 18. Mr William Purdy, secretary of the Coast Miners’ Council, states that Mr W. D. Holdgatc, president of tho Coal Owners’ Federation, has no justification for saying that trouble is brewing in the industry here, nor has the council asked for a meeting in Wellington. r Tho position, Mr Purdy stated, was that the agreement expired some time ago, and tho miners had urged the council to secure the protection ot an agreement. As, therefore, a conference was already arranged for Westport to deal with the engine drivers’ agreement, the Miners’ Council had simply requested that a general agreement should also be considered at that conference. The minors did not desire the spending of money on a conference in Wellington, but they desired to bo working under an agreement. Mr Purdy added, that he was at a loss to know why the miners had been criticised on that account.
