MACANDREW ROAD COMPLAINT.
TO TUB EDITOR. Sir, —Just prior to the last council election I wrote to the ‘.Star ’ drawing attention to the deplorable state of the lower end of Macandrew road. ' When the new council met we were informed that, in order to avoid a rise in rates, tar-sealing m the city was to cease , Since that time many streets have been ■ tar-sealed, and the ratepayers of this' locality are of the opinion that Macau drew road should be brought into line with the upper end of the street. It would be interesting to know the cost of the metal that has been strewn on this street during the last two years. I feel that the money so spent woulo have gone a long way_ towards paying for the cost of tar-sealing. This street is a disgrace to Dunedin. It is a busy thoroughfare, and the metal is hardly put on before it is scattered in the gutters. The paint on the houses is ruined with the dust. The metal is driven through the fences and hedges on to our lawns, and is hard on our lawn mowers and our tempers. I wonder if there is any particular reason m the minds of our city fathers why this portion of our street is not put into docent order P Election time is almost here again, and I know the ratepayers of this locality will endeavour to have a change of councillors. Then perhaps we shall get something done. —I. am, L> tc Disgusted. April 20.
