FORBURY PARK TROTS

MEETING OPENED IN FINE WEATHER DILLON LOGAN WINS THE OOP The weather was ideal for the opening day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s Cup Meeting, but the attendance early in the afternoon was disappointing. Amongst those present "'as Mr H. F. Nicoll, president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference. The track was in excellent order, and the winners were going well within their handicap times. Real Bell, Raclaim, ami Sea Mist were withdrawn from the Vauxhall Handicap, for unliopplel trotters, and Resound (£349) was sent out a hot favourite, with Mataunga (£172), Gyrate (£94), and Amonos, whose handicap was altered to 48yds (£93)) the next fancied. Mataunga broke at flic start, and Gyrate was slow to strike bis gait. Bosun began the best of the limit horses, but broke at the end of a furlong, and Sister-Mary led him, Sansaveno, and Amonos through the straight. Bosun broke badly again in the next round, and entering the last lap Amonos was in charge from Sansaveno, Resound, Mataunga, and Gyrate. There was no change in the leaders until rounding the far turn, where Sansaveno dropped out. Amonos led the favourite and Gyrate into the straight, and halfway down the running it looked as if the favourite, who w'as being hard driven, would not get up, but a hundred yards from the post Amonos broke, and, taking a long time to settle down, Resound beat him by three-parts of a length. Gyrate was two lengths away third, followed by Sister Mary, Sansaveno, and Mataunga next. Totalisator down £lB5 10s. Only Smoke Screen was missing from the Southland Handicap, and St. Felix £403), Reylcna £277, Quita £192), Black Jester £145), and Eastern Prince £l2£ the best fancied. Eastern Prince began very smartly, and led St. Felix, Young Frank, Quita, Hytcmoana, and Chenwood through the straight. Young Frank ran up into second place at the end of five furlongs, and entering the last lap Eastern Prince was racing just clear of Young Frank and St. Felix, with Quita, Chenwood, and Hytcmoana nest. There was no change until approaching the far turn, where Young Frank and , Quita ’ ran past the favourite, Eastern Prince dropping out. Quita was first into the straight' from Young Frank and St. Felix. Quita nearly fell 70yds from the post, but 31. Holmes cleverly got her hack to her feet, and she beat the favourite, who broke near _ the post, home by two lengths. Young Frank w'as four lengths away third, and then followed Anthum and__ Eastern Prhice, Totalisator up £174. All started in the Electric Handicap, a ml in close wagering Flying Cloud £249). Jolly Wave £222), the Auto-matic-Sislor Hose bracket £2I4A, and Willie Derby £179) were the best fancied. Bingen Patch went away slowly and Aristotle very badly. Flying Cloud led Peter Locanda over the early stages, and entering the last lap this pair w'as followed by Bingen Patch, Jolly Wave, Willie Derby, and Automatic. Racing along the back Automatic moved up and followed hlyms Cloud and Peter Locanda into the straight. In the run home Peter Locanda drew out to win by a length from Automatic, who beat 1* lying Cloud by three-quarters of a length. For the final gallops ideal conditions prevailed at Ellerslio this morning, when the course proper, with poles 20ft out (the closest they have over been to tho inside rails), the No. 10 grass and tan tracks wore in use. The best efforts of the morning were recorded by Ruling King and Chief Cook, both of whom are engaged at Takapuna on Saturday, on the course proper. Ruling King was the first to appear, being allotted a half-mile, which he completed in 50 3-ssec. He carried a good weight, and it was a first-class gallop. Bay Broney is improving with every gallop. Chief Cook, Psychologist, and Schizanthus jumped away together at tho five-furlong post, and after riming two furlongs in 25scc recorded Imin 3 l-ssec for the full distance. Schizanthus, who had much the best of the weights, was in front throughout, but Chief Cook was going nicely, and Psychologist was also finishing on. On No. 1 grass Brampton and Angis ran home from the half-mile post in 53 l-ssec, the former finishing in front. Neil traversed the round in 2min 2 2-5 sec without doing his best at any part. Karangapai showed customary speed, over a half-mile, running tho distance in 48 4-ssec. He carried a solid weight and did the work impressively. At Takanini the track was in excellent order, when all tho fast galloping was done on the inside grass, the poles being 15ft out. Principal and Imperial Prince were companions over a mile, Principal finishing a head in front in Imin 48sec. Tironui, tho Magpie gelding who has been working some time and has just been named, sprinted five furlongs in Imin 3 l-ssee. Greek Gold and Gold Pocket jumped off to go half a mile, but after going two furlongs something went wrong with the gear of Gold Pocket, Avho was then pulled up, and Greek Gold went on to run the half-mile in 52sec. After getting slightly the worst of the start, King Mestor was soon three lengths in front of Solomon, and beat the latter easily over a half-mile in 50 3-ssec. Lord WiJlonyx was a half-length in front of Chief Joy, with Mannorate two lengths away, after galloping five furlongs in Imin 4 2-ssec.
