FORESTERS

Tho fortnightly meeting of Court Pride of the Leith was held on Wednesday last, when there was a good attendance of members, with C.R. Bro. T. R. Spence in the chair. Letters of greetings and good wishes were read from members further afield, and were appreciated. The C.R. welcomed Bro. W. Geddes, who had just returned from a visit to Scotland, and to Bro. J. drnnton. The toast of “ The Visitors ” was responded to by C.R. Bro. Roe, on behalf of Court Bruce. Bro. Geddes, in returning thanks, gave an interesting account of his trip from Home via Suez. The half-yearly and yearly balance-sheets were read by Auditor Bro. H. W. Coekburn, who also reported on the audit. After thoroughly purging tho roll, the membership now stands at 902. The'.sick allowances for 1032 amounted to £BB3 11s Bd, rather move than usual. During the past year £2GO was paid out for funeral allowances and £222 for maternity allowances to members. The cost of running the court for tho year amounted to £1,259 -Is 6d. It was resolved to place on record the appreciation of the members to tho secretary for bis untiring efforts on behalf of the court during a difficult year. One new member was admitted during the meeting. After the close of tho ordinary meeting tho seventh annual meeting of tho Pride of tho Leith Foresters’ Hall Society was held, the president (Bro. J. Abbott) being in the chair. The animal report showed that good progress had been made during the year and that the rentals had increased. The following were elected as a committee :—Brothers C. T. Bates, H. Brown, W. J. Duncan. S. T. D. Gandhi, A. W. Jones, D. S. Munro, C. C, Robertson, C. H. A. Slack. A. C. Skinner, and J. B. Watt. Brother W. J. .Duncan was re-elected as auditor. The meeting concluded with thanks to the president and secretary for their services during tho year, and the president thanked the committee for its assistance during the same period.

The first meeting of Court Bruce (Milton) after the holidays was held on Monday last, with a fair attendance of members, I.P.C.R. Bro. W. Kennedy presiding. A resolution of sympathy was passed with P.G.R. Bro. E. Hollick in liis bereavement sustained by the death of his sister. The C.R., Bro. A. S. Roe, was granted leave of absence owing to his removal to Dunedin. Court Little John (Dunedin) wrote expressing appreciation for tho excellent way in which its members had been treated on the recent visit to Milton. One member was readmitted, and a youthful member of the juvenile branch was initiated into the parent court. Owing to extraordinary vacancies, the following new officers wore elected:—S.C.R., Sister M. H. Read; S.W., Bro. W. Nimmo; J.W., Bro. J. S. Lambert. These officers wore installed by P.C.R.s Bros. M. E. Paul and E. Marshall, and returned thanks for the elevation. Bros. W. Kennedy, G. W. Sidon, F. Read, ami Sister A. J. Hall were appointed as delegates to the combined Friendly Societies’ Picnic Committee. The fortnightly meeting of Court St. Andrews was Held on Monday last at Caversham, when C.R. Bro. R. Murphy presided over a good attendance of officers and members. An invitation was accepted from Court Excelsior to its fifty-sixth anniversary meeting, and Court "King Edward’s Pride notified that the second round of the cribbage tournament would take place at its next meeting. The report of the auditors and the balance-sheets were presented by auditor Bro. H. C. Halford, and showed that the funds were in a healthy state. The membership had increased by thirty last year, and totalled 250, the highest on record, and showed excellent progress considering the depressed conditions now prevailing. Members were urged to do their utmost to maintain this high standard during the current year. Preliminary arrangements were made to suitably celebrate the fii'tv-cighth anniversary of the court next month. Following the close of the meeting a successful - community sing was held.
