SANDERS AND CORNWELL GUP CHEWS At a meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association last night the crews were chosen to represent Otago at the Sanders Cup and Cornwell Gup contests. There were present Messrs W. 0. Martin (chairman), A. W. Hazelwood, T. Anderson, C. Smith, J. Smail, E. T. Molier, R. Cardno, A. Burt, and A. Challis. The crew selected for the Sanders Cup is:—l. M'Grath (skipper), R. Reynolds, J. M.'Laron, A. Hunter, and Kennedy. The Chairman and Mr Smith were appointed delegates to the Dominion Conference, and Mr Smith was elected manager of the crew. Mr Smith said that the result of last Saturday’s Sanders Cup trial from the point of view of the capabilities of the skippers bore out the Selection Committee’s previous report. In presenting its report on the Cornwell Cup trials, the Selection Committee (Messrs E. T. Molier and R. H. Cardno) stated that, although there were as many as five youths from whom to pick the representing crew, the committee was considerably hampered in reaching the final choice by one of the two available Takapuna boats being refused the committee in the competition. The original selectors were Messrs A. Burt and E. T. Molier, Mr Burt, however, resigning his position to become secretary of the association and Mr R. Cardno had succeeded him in office. Seven trials were held, and all those whose claims were to be considered were given ample opportunity to prove their ability. The crew "finally selected was:—Skipper, E. M. Walker (Vauxhall Club), 17 years 3 months, 11 stone 41b; for’ard-hand, A. J. Spratt (Ravensbourne Club), 18 years 7 months, 8 stone 31b. It was felt that these two youths would by no means disgrace Otago if their extreme keenness was any indication of their worth. The committee’s selection was approved. Mr Molier was elected as delegate to the conference to be held prior to the contest and manager of the crew. It was decided that the manager and crew leave for Lyttelton on January 20. A letter was received from the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club asking the local association to provide one standard Takapuna boat, as sufficient boats for the coming Cornwell Cup contest were not available. —The Secretary reported that he had got in touch with the owner of Pupuke, who was agreeable to loaning her.—The secretary’s action was endorsed. Mr T. Brooks was elected delegate to the Port Chalmers regatta. Mr Smail gave a short verbal report on the Macandrew Bay regatta, stating that everything was carried out satisfactorily. Mr Smith reported on the Broad Bay regatta. CRUISING RACE HANDICAPS.
