ENGLISH OFFER TO BRADMAN

INDUCEMENTS TO PLAY AT HOME The report that Don Bradman is considering an offer from the Lancashire Cricket League is causing great speculation, especially at Ramsbottom, where the people are excited at the suggestion that the local club is attempting to secure him (says the London representative of the Melbourne ‘ Herald ’). The secretary says: “I suppose people believe that wo are negotiating with Bradman because we.are without a professional. I cannot say anything before Monday” A prominent Ramsbottom business man states: “ A wealthy supporter of the dub is prepared to finance it to secure the best possible professional. 1 believe an offer has been made to Bradman.” It is pointed out that some professionals are paid £2O a week, but very much more would be offered to Bradman. The ‘ Manchester Guardian ’ says that the Ramshotton Club is one of tho poorest and most economically worked in the league. It could not have offered Bradman tho terms he might have asked. The club has been sounding overseas test players, but it wants an allrounder, especially to help amateur bowling, to which Bradman is unable to assist. No record bid has been offered to Bradman. [When Bradman was told that rumours of offers to go to England had been circulated in Melbourne he stated that there were certain offers, but ho refused to give any details.] Referring to-day to tho report that an offer of a position had been made to him by a Sydney boot firm, and that he might settle in Australia, Maurice Tate, the Sussex bowler, said that although certain conversations had taken place ho did not regard them in tho light of a definite offer. Tate said that only a few months ago he entered into a renewal of his contract to play for Sussex, and that contract still had about two and a-half years to run.
