JUNIOR GIRLS' RAGE In connection with the selection of the Otago team for the New Zealand intermediate and junior swimming championships at Invercargill two races were to lie swum off between Miss A. Gillies (Kiwi) and Miss R. Jarvis (Dunedin) before the final choice was made. The first of these, the 50yds free stjde, was swum last night, a close and exciting race resulting. Miss Gillies took the lead over the first lap, but Miss Jarvis, swimming easily, drew up near the turn. However, Miss Gillies finished very determinedly to win by a touch. Result: —Miss A. Gillies 1, Miss R. Jarvis 2. Time, 37 3-osec. The 100yds race between these girls will be swum to-morrow night at 8.30.
