SPORTING
' AUCKLAND TRACK WORK. [Peb United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 22. Some brilliant sprints were recorded at Takanini this morning, when both Exaggeration and Tea Trade set up new records for the track. The inside grass, with the poles 6ft out, was in use and it was very fast. Tea Trader was first out and covered five furlongs in Imin 0 2-ssec without being kicked out. Speedmint and Royal Artist worked over eleven furlongs, the pace being clapped on at the mile and the pair coming home together in Imin 43 4-ssec. Both went _ pleasingly. Gay Marigold was doing better than Chief Joy at the conclusion of a mile in Imin 44 4-ssec. The former went very well and could have registered better time. Exaggeration and Greek Gold began smartly at the six-furlong post and were still together when passing the three-furlong peg, the _ time being 34 3-ssec, the former being a neck in front. Gold Pocket was two lengths too good for Expectancy over half a mile, which was covered in 49 l-ssec. Great Emblem, Pillow Fight, and Gold Trail, who was taken over from Ellerslie by Mr J. C. Cameron, were sent to the mile, and a-quarter post. They covered the first six furlongs in Imin 18 4-ssec and came home over the last half-mile in 54sec, making 2min 12 4-ssec for the mile and a-quar-ter. Pillow Fight finished half a length in front of Gold Trail, who was stated not to be a good track worker. Great Emblem hung on surprisingly well, being only a length away. RECORD NOT ATTEMPTED, Peierwah did not make his intended attempt this morning on the New Zealand mile record.—Auckland Press Association.
