NO LONGER " MARY " LONDON, December 5. In last night’s London ‘ Gazette ’ appeared the announcement that Mr Claude Charles Mary De Barbe, of Moor Tor, Marldon, Paignton, Devon, lias by deed poll “ renounced and abandoned the Christian name of ‘ Mary ’ and the surname of 1 De Barbe,’ and adopted the surname of ‘ Tracy Do Forteric.’ ” It is a custom in Roman Catholic families for a child to bo given the name of the saint who is his or her patron, cither one personal or familiar —i.e., upon whose feast the child was born or baptised or who is patron of the family.
