PIE FOR THE KING
OLD IRISH CUSTOM DUBLIN, December 3. Dublin is speculating on the attitude that will be adopted by the new Governor-General, Mr Donal Buckley, concerning the Christmas present of “ four .and twenty woodcocks baked in a pie ” that has been sent to the King of England by Irish Viceroys for the past 114 years. Messrs Healy and M'Neill observed the custom, the pie, accompanied by Christmas greetings, being delivered to the King by special courier, but it is considered that there is “ Buckley’s chance ” of a pie being sent this year.
