The policy of reserving streets in Salford as playgrounds for children has proved so good that Manchester has decided to close sixty minor streets to traffic after 8 o’clock in the morning. The number of persons employed in Britain’s coal mines has been under 800,000 since the end of June, and on September 10 the number fell to 773,100. At one time the number of persons employed was roundly 1,200,000.
