OTAGO HEAD CENTRE PRESENTATION OF ASSOCIATES’ AWARD At last night’s meeting of the Otago Head Centre of the Royal Life Saving Society, which was presided over by the president (Air H. H. Henderson), the opportunity was taken to present the hon. associateship awards of the society to Messrs H. H. Henderson, D. C. Bannatyne, P. A. Mathieson. and A. Findlay, who were recently granted this distinction by the Central Executive in London. This award is given only to those who have rendered distinguished service to the society. The presentations were made by/Mr J. L. M’lndoe, who referred to the very valuable services that had been rendered to life saving by the four gentlemen concerned. Mr Bannatyne had been associated with the Otago Head Centre the longest, and Mr Henderson came next for length of service, but all four had given many years of untiring service to the cause of life saving, and were thoroughly deserving of the awards that, had now been granted them, and then handed over the hon. associate’s certificates and medallion. Air'Henderson returned thanks on behalf of the recipients, and said that if life saving had benefited from their services they were well satisfied. EXAMINATION AWARDS. The following . examination awards were approved:— Primary Certificates. —Joan Guthrie (North School, Oamaru), Dorothy Hintz (South School, Oamaru), Joan Brcmner (Arthur Street School), Rona Corke and Edith Eggleston (Normal School). Elementary Certificate.—Neil Williams and Ralph Gibbs (Normal School), and Alary Buchanan (St, Hilda’s College), Intermediate Certificates.—Alarjorie Cleary, Mary Wilson, Nancye Laurenson, and June Robertson (Otago Girls’. High School), Mary Buchanan (St. Hilda’s College). James P. Brown, Vernon T. Bailey, William R. Mabson, Frank G. Henry, and Joffre A. Henry (Oreti Surf Club). - Bronze Medallions.—Marjorie Cleary, Mary Wilson, Nancye Laurenson (Otago Girls’ High School), Eleanor Carswell and Kathleen Al'Kay (Archerfield College), James P. Brown, Vernon T. Bailey, William R. Mabson, Frank G. Henr’v. and Joffre A. Henry (Oreti Surf Club). First Class Instructor’s Certificate.— Sheila Robertson (Otago Girls’ High School). ACTIVITIES'AT OAAIARU. . Air D. Bannatyne reported on the success that had attended the life saving classes held at Oamaru in connection with the recent “ Learn to Swim Week ” there, and said that ns many as forty or fifty members attended the classes some nights. When the next “ Learn to Swim AVeek ’’ was held there in February these candidates should be ready for examination. Mr Bannatyne whs thanked for his report, and it was decided to record a minute of appreciation of Air Bannatyne’s services in connection with the campaign in Oamaru. It was decided to appoint Air M. K. APCulloch as the society’s representative in Oamaru. GENERAL. It was decided to donate £5 to both the St. Clair and St. Kilda Clubs towards the cost of purchasing new reels. Air J. Pereira was granted permission to conduct entertainments at Tomahawk, under the auspices of the society, to raise funds for the purchase of a new reel for the Tomahawk Beach, Air Pereira being thanked for the interest he had always taken in life saving in that district particularly.
