The Orepuki. which is due on Thursday from Wellington, is to load out that day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Wingatui was to sail from Wellington to-day for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due here on Thursday afternoon to unload and load general j cargo. She sails again on Saturday for ( Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. ( Tho Gale is due at Dunedin from | Lyttelton on Saturday. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Company advise that the C. and D. liner Port Hunter arrived at Auckland at noon yesterday from New York via Auckland. She discharges her South Island cargo at Wellington, and the Dunedin portion is to be lifted by the Orepuki, which should land it here on Thursday morning. WAIHEMO FROM PACIFIC COAST. The Union Company advises that the Waibemo, from Pacific Coast ports, left Auckland yesterday for Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin for further discharge of her cargo. She is due hero about December 20. PERSONAL. Captain R. S. Durham is in command of the Port Hunter, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from New York via Auckland. THE WAIRUNA. The Union Company’s Wairuua was scheduled to clear Los Angeles on Sunday for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, .Dunedin, and Australia. She is due at Auckland on January 5. REDUCTION IN FREIGHTS. Tho Westland Shipping Company, owners of the Chatham Islands steamer Tees, announce that, as a result of a conference between the company and the islanders, it has made a reduction, of approximately 10 per cent, in both outward and inward freights on all classes of cargo. PASSENGERS BY TEES. The Tees, which arrived at Lyttelton on Saturday morning from the Chatham Islands, brought the following passengers;—Mesdames Lewis, Gow, Miss Rewai, Master Watson, Messrs Coulter, Mitchell, Gubbins, and Price. WAHINE’S SMART TRIP. The Wahine, the departure of which from Wellington on Saturday night was delayed until 11 o’clock to enable woolbuyers from the Wellington wool sale to connect with the steamer, berthed at Lyttelton at 9 o’clock on Sunday morning after a smart trip of ten hours from wharf to wharf. During the latter part of the trip the Wahine encountered a strong south-westerly gale with thick rain. PORT HUNTER’S PASSENGERS. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Hunter, which arrived at Auckland on Thursday morning from London, New York, and Corpus Christ!,’brought the. following pasengers:—From London: Miss K. Holli’s, Mrs Milbank-Smith, Mrs C. M. Cornwall. From New York: Miss W. Alves, Miss H. Houghton. FIGUREHEAD AT NAVAL BASE. The figurehead of a female figure, taken from the wrecked barque Joseph Craig, has been received by Commander E. L. Berthon, officer in charge of the Devonport (Auckland) naval base, from Mr J. Wark, of Kohukohu, Hokianga, who some time ago saved it from being burned as firewood. It is now being restored by the carpenter and painter of H.M.S. Philomel, and will be added to the interesting collection of ships’ figureheads round tho grass plots at tho base. The Joseph Craig was an iron barque of 751 tons, and her original name was Dunblane. She was built at Glasgow in 1878. The vessel was purchased in 1908 by J. J. Craig Limited, and her name was then changed from Dunblane to Joseph Craig. About six months before she was wrecked—at Hokianga in 1914—she was purchased by the Huddart, Parker Company, which intended to run the vessel in the intercolonial coal, produce, and timber trade for a few months, and then convert her into ft coal hulk. She had the reputation of bonig one of the smartest sailing vessels sailing from Auckland, and she made several fast passages between New Zealand and Australia.
