COVERAGE COMMISSION'S IDEAS
It is understood that tlio Broadcasting Board’s radio engineers have already made a reconnaissance of the ground at Akaroa. suggested as a site suitable for a South island transmitting station (reports a Wellington paper). It will be seen, therefore, that every effort is being made to push forward with the main suggestions made by the Coverage Commission. Just how long it will be before anything material arises from the suggestions is another matter. Let us hope the board does not dally so long over the ideas that they become obsolete before they are even started. It is said that financial problems are the cause of the present goslow policy. It must be remembered however that only by spending money can the board make money. If people are encouraged to listen there is no reason why the present proportion of listeners should not be doubled in a few years. They are discovering in Kngland that saturation point is as far away as ever despite the fact that nearly 15 per cent, of the population are license holders.
