WELL-ORGANISED SCHOOL BAZAAR
MAURI KILL EFFORT Friends of tho Maori Hill School gave a great deal of support, for which the organisers are thoroughly grateful, to the bazaar, which was held yesterday afternoon and last evening for the purpose of augmenting the monetary resources at tho disposal of the committee. A most creditable display of goods was to be found on the many stalls, each of which transacted a good share of business. School children were present in large numbers, and their purchases must have realised a satisfactory amount in themselves, but parents and supporters made up a very pleasing balance in the evening. Declaring the bazaar open, the mayor (Mr R. S. Black) confined his remarks mainly to the children. If they were going to make a success of life, he said, they must think, not in terms of money, but of what service they could render to others. In that lay the real secret of a successful life. They would get nothing out of life by growling or merely' by wishing that their lot had been cast in other places. What they should always remember was that tho more pleasure they gave to others the more genuine enjoyment they would obtain themselves. They must not think that when their school days were done they had finished with all education ; as a matter of fact, they only started to learn after they had left the schoolroom behind them. In conclusion, the mayor paid a tribute to those who had been responsible for the organisation of the bazaar, and urged all present to spend as freely as possible in a worthy cause. Attendant at the various stalls were:—Work—Mesdames Mnydon and Fairmaid; novelty—Mesdames Anderson, Bezett, and Wight; Christmas tree —Mesdames Young, Ferguson, and Cunningham ; sweets—Mrs Adamson, Misses Storor and Adamson; cake stall and tea rooms—Mesdames Turner, Martin. Bluckie, M’Cahan, Scrivener, and Wilson; produce—Misses Haro, Swan, and O’Reilly; (lower—Misses M’Loes and M'Kay; ice cream—Messrs Lenihan, Notman, and Lning.
