'BUT THE FLESH IS WEAK'
DELICIOUS STORY FOR REGENT Robert Montgomery’s new starring production for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, ‘ But the Flesh is Weak,’ which begins to-morrow at the Regent Theatre, is adapted from the famous stage play, 1 The Truth Game,’ by Ivor Novello. The background of the romance is sot in England, with tho famous old aristocratic houses, the Ascot races, and perfect dress routine that is essential to lie a real Englishman, and deliciously bright dialogue. The story, just to reverse the usual, shows how two men live their lives in the hope of marrying money and thus ensuring comfort. There are many moments of hilarity and of tender romance as tho story unfolds. Max Clement and his father, although living only to the extent of their gambling success, live and move among the very elite of society. It is at the opera that Max meets Lady .loan, and openly tells her that he is falling in love with her money, and she instantly likes him. However, his attentions to Joan are suddenly , stayed when he meets and really falls in love with Rosine, a beautiful young widow. Max’s illusions as to Rosino’s fortune are sadly shattered when she reveals that her position is quite similar to his, but ho finally convinces her of his love, and she agrees to marry him, while Max, in turn, agrees to try his hand at real hard work. Florian, tho father, in the meantime, has had bad losses at gambling, and is forced to write a bad cheque. When Max hears this he realises that in order to save his father, he must marry Lady Joan, from whom ho will ho able to got tho money for tho cheque. How .Max and Rosine are eventually reunited is said to make ‘ But tho Flesh is Weak ’ a most enjoyable evening’s entertainment. C. Aubrey Smith, Nora Gregor, Heather Thatcher, Nils Asthor, and Edward Everett Horton have the principal supporting roles in the cast.
