BRITISH AIRMAN'S FEAT CONFIRMED (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, October 10. The Federation of Aeronautics Internationale confirmed the world altitude records for aeroplanes which was established by C. F. Uwins, a British airman, in a Vickers Vespa biplane fitted with a Bristol Pegasus engine. Uwins reached a height of about eight and a-half miles, beating the United States record by 800 ft. The Marquis of Londonderry, on behalf of the Air Council, in a congratulatory message to Uwins, says that the success of the attempt was a tribute to Uwins’s own skill and to the efficiency of British aircraft and engines..
