TRADE WITH THE FAR EAST DEFINITE MOVE BY GOVERNMENT CONFERENCE WITH EXPORT CONTROL BOARDS [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, October 12. A definite move to establish tween New Zealand and the Far East was made to-day, when a conference was held between the Hon. G. W. Forbes, J. G. Coates, and E. Masters and the representatives of the four Export Control Boards—meat, dairy, produce, and fruit and honey. The Prime Minister said this afternoon that the conference had been most satisfactory, and it was hoped definite results would follow. He indicated that the Control Boards would meet in conference to further consider the matter. The chairman of the Meat Board (Mr D. Jones) would act as convenor. , Mr Forbes said, while he realised that there were practical difficulties in the way, he and his colleagues were of the opinion that every possibility of opening fresh channels of trade should be examined. As far as increased trade with the East was concerned, _ direct shipping was one of the necessities, although he made it clear that there_ was no intention of the State to institute such a service. , _ . “ This is a start,” said the Prime Minister, who added that the Government was very serious in its determination to see fresh markets developed, wherever opportunity offered. The Minister of Industries and Commerce had obtained a vast amount of information regarding the possibilities of trad* with Eastern countries, and this had been furnished to the Export Control Boards. Now that the preliminary conference had been held it was for the control boards to follow up the matter.
