MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BANQUET
On the evening of September 2S the members ot‘ the Holy Cross Girls’ Club entertained their mothers at a banquet. This function lias become an annual event, and is looked forward to by mothers and daughters. The schoolroom was beautifully decorated with spring flowers and the tables were well laden with all sorts of good things. Miss Rhoda Hobbs was in charge of the programme and made a very efficient toast-mistress. 'The toast list, which was a fairly lengthy one, was as follows:—“ The King,” followed by the toast of the evening, “ Mother.” This was in the capable hands of Miss May Hutchings, and Mrs Smith replied on behalf of the mothers. To Miss Gore fell the responsibility of proposing the toast of the ‘ 4 President and t Vicepresidents,” Mrs Litolff responding to same. Miss Hazel Race, in a very happy little speech, proposed the toast of “‘Kindred Clubs,” Miss Carpenter responding, Mrs Fraser, tbe club’s musician, proposed the toast of the “ Girls,” Miss Marian Klee responding. The toast of “ Leaders and Subleads ” was in tbe capable hands of Miss Margaret Collins, while Miss Freda Hobbs responded to same. A delightful programme of songs and recitations was interspersed be-
tween toasts, while Miss V. t Wingfield played a pianoforte solo, Misses Bond and Hodgson played a duet, and Miss Rosalie Newman a violin solo. Misses Thelma Maddox and Connie Bqwmast delighted the company with their singing. Two humorous recitations were given bv Misses Kileen Munn and Nopra Smith, and Miss Whenua Smith recited the 1 King's Toast ’ very _ appropriate to the occasion. The vicar, the Rev. A. Wingfield, in a few chosen words, welcomed tbe guests of the evening, and congratulated the girls and leaders on their efforts. After the hall and tables were cleared the junior girls, in costume, danced ‘ Sir Roger de Coverley,’ followed by a humorous item from the snior girls, ‘ Daisy Bell.’ Tbe remainder of the evening was spent in dancing.
