FAT CATTLE PRICES UNCHANGED

A shorter yarding of fab cattle, about double the number of spring Jambs, and approximately the same number of fat sheep were entered for the sales at I Burnside to-day. The cattle sold at [ prices similar to those ruling last week, while wethers at the beginning were about Is cheaper than before, with lambs also a shade easier. Fat Cattle.—The yarding of 272 head was made up of quality much the same as in the last entry—a big number of extra heavy cattle, a fair consignment of prime medium weights, and a big selection of cows. Mr 11. Marshall, Stirling, sent in a consignment of cattle that brought from £9 10s to £lO 10s, and Mr J. Edgar, Tapanui, forwarded a truck of primes. These also sold at £lO 10s. Several trucks of nice

handy weight bullocks brought from £8 10s to £9 10s. There were very few heifers, only two primes being in. These sold for £7 7s Gd each'. The old cows realised from £6 to £7 10s. Prices for prime ox beef were practically the same as last week, averaging 21s 1001 b. A few extra heavy cattle sold at 20s 1001 b, and heifers and cows were worth 18s to 20s. Store Cattle.—Chief attraction m this entry was a line of forty head from Glendhu Station. The highest price for this consignment was £o 7s 6d, and the whole line averaged a little over £4. It was considered a very good sale. Old cows made up the balance of the yarding, and sold at late rates. Spring Lambs.—There was a good yarding of spring lambs, about double the size of last week’s entry. Competition was not quite so keen as before, several pens bringing from 25s to 25s Gel, with lighter sorts running from 17s Gd to 20s. The whole yarding averaged 8d a lb.

Fat Sheep.—About 2,000 sheep were entered. There was a fair yarding of prime heavy wethers, along with several trucks of good heavy ewes and a fair number of medium light ewes. The wether sale opened with a drop of Is a head compared with last week. Early in the sale the top price realised was 17s Gd for several pens of wethers. Nice handy weights sold from 14s to 16s, and a few pens of extra prime ewes brought from 12s to 12s Gd. The majority of the ewes, however, were working out from 10s to 11s, which was about the same as last week. Wethers were equal to 21d for heavy and 2Jd for light, while ewes were worth l^d. Pigs.—There were 97 fats and 128 stores. Good quality was featured in the pig pens. Baconers were about 5s better in value than last week, and porkers were a little easier than previously.
