A CCLIMATISA TION SOCIETIES

The Conference of Acclimatisation Societies was opened to-day. The president (Mr Tripp), in a lengthy address, dealt with many matters in which the societies were concerned. The Secretary of Internal Affairs (Mr Malcolm Eraser) attended the conference. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr Tripp; vice-president, Mr Whitney; treasurer, Mr Dyer; council —Dr Anson and Mr Seed (Wellington), Messrs M’Kenzie (Auckland), Laurence (North Canterbury), StockwelL (Feilding), Wilson (Otago), Macfcay (South Canterbury), Duigan (Wanganui), Ilobertson (Southland), Mogridge (Marlborough), Parkin (Whangaroa), Edmondson (Hawke’s Bay).—Wellington Press Association. BAPTIST UNION ASSEMBLY. The Rev. B. N. Eade and Nurse M. Livingstone were welcomed home from Bengal at the Baptist Union Assembly this morning. The Assembly adopted the financial statement by singing the doxology. Dr J. 11. Rushbrooke paid a welcome visit to the Assembly and submitted greetings from the Queensland Baptists, and from the Rev. E. Elder, who is in the Argentina. Dr Rushbrooko congratulated the Baptist Missionary Society on its achievement in reducing its debt during the past difficult year. Dr Charles North moved a motion of appreciation of services rendered for thirty years in the Chanapur Hospital by Dr Amir Hossain.—Christchurch Press Association. BAKERS’ DISPUTE. The bakers’ and pas try books’ dispute was continued in the Conciliation Council to-day. It was slated on behalf of the workers that it would be necessary to consult the local unions in regard to the employers’ amended terms, and an adjournment was made till October 26 to enable this to be done,—Wellington Press Association.
