* MAH ABOUT TOWN' HAS HOVEL LOVE TANGLE Two men fight for a woman's hand in ‘ Man About Town,’ the Fox picture starring Warner Baxter and Karen Morley, which comes to the St. James Theatre on Friday. The woman makes her choice, the men become enemies, and one attempts to destroy tlxe other by sending him on a mission so dangerous that, death seems a certainty. Fate plays its part, and tragedy makes for a renewal of the tics of friendship when the modern Damon and Pythias unite in their efforts to save the woman from scandal, following the mysterious death of an international spy. Set in a locale that includes the many show places of America’s capital, ‘ Man About Town ’ is a story of conflicting emotions played against a background of the diplomatic corps and the secret service. Mystery, rornance, intrigue, and jealousy are the niain elements of this film,' which shows Warner Baxter in the role of a man who is ready to die to save the woman he took away from his best friend. Warner Baxter, whose popularity has steadily increased since he came into prominence for his role in ‘ In Old Arizona,’ appears in the leading part, that of a gentleman gambler, Secret Service agent, and lover. Conway Tearle plays the important role of a man mad with jealousy attempting to send a friend to his death. Karen Morley, who scored a personal success in ‘ Arsene Lupin,’ the Barrymore brothers’ picture, enacts the leading feminine role—the girl who is loved by the two men. Other personalities in important roles are Lilian Bond, Alan Mowbray, Leni Stengel, Lawrence Grant, and Halliwell Hobbes. Warner Baxter, who has recently appeared in ‘ Daddy Long Legs,’ ‘ Surrender,’ ‘ Doctors’ Wives,’ ‘ The Cisco Kid,’ and other successes, is said never to havo portrayed a rolo better suited to his talents.
