BABY'S BONE

Why do doctors advise mothers to give their babies a bone to suck long before solid foods are thought of? There are two very good reasons. First, because it teaches the child to chow—an important part of his education before weaning begins. Secondly, because it acts in much the same way as massage. By stimulating the gum’s plenty of blood is brought to these parts, and this encourages the growth of the teeth. There is, however, one important thing to remember. Never give baby his bone unless yon are actually bolding him or near him at the time. He may swallow it. _lt is not enough to tie a tape or piece of cord to the bone and then leave him to it. You must bo tin?re all the time to .see that be comes to no harm.
