IMPERIAL EX-SERVICEMEN
MONTHLY SOCIAL EVENING The monthly meeting of the Imperial Ex-servicemen’s Association was held in Lake’s Restaurant, Dowling street, last night, when a large-attendance of members was presided over by Mr L. G, LiUy, The Chairman said that in regard to Armistice Day observance he was in touch with the president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association with the idea of having the usual two-minutes’ silence, hymn, prayer, and the sounding of the ‘ Last Post ’ held at the cenotaph, as is done in London and other Empire centres. The committee considered it would be fitting for the association to attend the evening service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and he was pleased to say that arrangements had been made "with the dean for 100 seats to be available for members who would attend in a body. The padre (the Rev. A. Mead) would take part in the service. The speaker stressed the fact that the association was in no way overlappingthe work of the R.S.A., which had done so . much for Imperial men, whether they had been members or not. Mr Lilly acknowledged the debt the Imperial men owed to the R.S.A., and said it was pleasing to know that it was still taking an interest in the Imperial ex-servicemen. _ A concert party was being formed with the idea that visits might be paid to Montecillo Hospital to entertain the inmates. During the evening enjoyable musical and other items were contributed by Messrs Freeman, Greene, F. Duller, J. Carpenter, L. G. Lilly, J. Fitzgerald, the Rev. A. Mead, J. Bishop, A. G. Scott, F. Benton, W. R. Watts. G. D. Wilkinson, S. Lansbury, W. Johnston, W. Brain, J. Morris, and W. Hopkins.
