CYCLING CLUB OBJECTS
DOMINATION BY ATHLETIC CENTRE [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, September 28. “ We are not surprised; we expected it,” was the reply of Mr R. Hill, secretary of the Papanui Amateur Cycling Club, to the suspension by the New Zealand Cycling Council of the riders who took part in the Round the Gorges race last Saturday. 11 They are only upholding the Canterbury Cycling Centre,” he said. ”As far as we are concerned, we do not take any notice of it; we take notice only' of the federation which controls cycling in New Zealand. The federation has not upheld them yet. If it does uphold them, •well, we will be suspended.” Mr Hill said the objection of the Papanui Club was against domination by the Athletic Centre. il We want a cycling centre, and not domination by athletic people, and from what I hear from Wellington the domination of the three A’s is even worse there than here.” With regard to a suggested round the table conference, Mr Hill said it was probable that the club would take part if the conference was held.
