GALLI-CURCI NEXT WEEK
UNPRECEDENTED CHRISTCHURCH ENTHUSIASM The definite announcement made by, Messrs J. and N. Tait that the worldfamed prima donna Madame Galli-Curci will return to Dunedin to give two concerts in the Town Hall, next week, : on October 5_ and 8, should allay any, feelings of disappointment which may have been created by the recent postponement. Confirmation of the reports of the unprecedented enthusiasm which has characterised the receptions given to Galli-Curci in the north is contained in the following cutting from a Christchurch paper:—“ A cheer from the dress circle shattered the silence which followed the last song of Madame GalliCurci’s final recital at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night. The spell of silent appreciation once broken, the audience gave the great singer a rousing farewell. From all over the theatre people cheered and shouted; some waved hats, others handkerchiefs and programmes, and almost as one the huge audience rose to its feet as GalliCurci, after numerous encores find many enthusiastic calls, stood before them waving her handkerchief in graceful farewell. It is doubtful whether any visiting artist has ever before been given such an ovation in Christchurch, and one may be acquitted of undue pride in expressing the_ belief that, in spite of her triumphs in the greatest cities in the world, Galli-Curci will not readily forget the tribute' paid to her exquisite voice and her graceful persona lity on Saturday night. She- can he sure Christchurch will never forget her.” The box plans for the two concerts will open at The Bristol to-mor« row morning.
