Mr P. A. de la Perrelle, M.P., cama from the South this morning and went on to Wellington. Mr D. F. S. Wunsch, of Edendale, passed through Dunedin this morning on his way to Christchurch. Mr T. Pound, inspector in the Lands Department, finished his visit to Dunedin this morning, and left by train for Wellington. Mr J. S. Dick; secretary of the Southland League, travelled by train to-day from Invercargill to Christchurch.
Mr W. H. Hopkins, Mayor of Palmerston, returned from the south this morning. Senior-sergeant D. A. M'Lcan, who leaves for Dunedin on Friday, was farewelled yesterday (wires our Wanganui correspondent). At the court house glowing tributes were paid by Inspector MTlveney and Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., who expressed sincere regret at Mr M'Lean’s departure. A large civic gathering assembled at Foster’s Hotel, presided over by the mayor, where special reference was made to the great lead Mr M'Leau had given in the police-press charity movement, which had recently been responsible for raising £650. The License Victuallers’ Association at its gathering also paid tribute to Mr M'Lean for his fairness and impartiality to-day. Mr M‘Lean was given a send-off by the Wanganui Bowling Club.
Dr A. A. Reid, Messrs F. N. Binney and J. M'Phie were elected as the Albion Cricket Club’s delegates to tho 0.0. A. at a meeting of the committee last night. Messrs H. M. S. Humphreys and J. : M. Kenchington (London), Mr A. M'Kerrall (Rangoon), Mr and Mrs C.A. Luber (Sydney), Mr E. J. Preen (Christchurch), Mr L. Mann (Wanaka), and Mr J. R. Wilson (Tawanui) are staying at tho Grand Hotel.
