THE GRAN CHACO DISPUTE PROPOSAL FOR CESSATION OF HOSTILITIES Pres* Asiociation—By Telegraph—Copyright. ASUNCION (Paraguay), September 26. (Received September 27, at 10 a.m.) The Paraguayan Government to-day announced acceptance of a proposal for cessation of hostilities ixr the disputed Gran Chaco region under conditions which will be supervised by an American neutral commission.
Tho conditions under which fighting between tho Bolivian and Paraguayan forces would cease wore approved in a reply sent to the commission in Washington. They were the immediate withdrawal of the armies, complete demilitarisation of tho Gran Chaco within two or three weeks, and the acceptance by both Bolivia and Paraguay of a reduction in their military effectives to the minimum required for internal security. The reply said that Paraguay was leaving the settlement of the dispute in the hands of international justice.
Almost simultaneously with this announcement came a bulletin from the Ministry of War that the Paraguayan forces in tho Gran Chaco had repelled a Bolivian drive. Another bulletin said that they had prevented the escape of the besieged Bolivian garrison at Fort Fourteenth of December.
