SANGUINE SAWMILLERS
REVIVAL OH WEST COAST BIG TIMBER ORDERS FROM OTAGO Our Christchurch correspondent telegraphs : A substantial increase in the quantity of timber loaded by the Railway Department on tho West Coast during the last week or so confirms the statement made by a Const sawmillor to-day that tho timber industry over there is more active now than it has been for months. “ During the last few weeks,” said tho miller, “wo have received big orders for building timbers, much of it from merchants in Otago. In addition to that onr trade in white pine with Australia has brightened np considerably, and wo have been sending good quantities over there for manufacture into butter hoses.” He added that Ids mill during the last three weeks had been unable to keep pace with the orders it had received, and was now practically cleaned out of stocks, while it had full orders for a month ahead. Ho thought if business continued as it was doing that more mills would open on the Coast. At tho present time there are about twelve of the bigger mills operating.
