PORT CHALMERS FIRE BOARD

QUARTERLY HfETIHG Last night the quarterly meeting of the Fire Board was presided over by, Mr H. A. B. Brabant (chairman). The Department of Internal Affair* inquired if the board had any recoinmendations to make in the event of an amending Bill being drafted for the present session of Parliament. —Received. The brigade report showed that the motor was still pulling, and the rest of the gear was'in fair order. The new fire hose had been divided into two 100 ft lengths and two 50ft lengths, and coupled up. All the brigade officers were re-elected at their annual meeting. Fireman Anderson had applied for a further three months’ leave of absence, as he was still away from the district. Ex-Captaiu Dougherty was acting as proxy. The fire plugs had been cleaned out and tested. The pressure was reported to be still indifferent in Ajax road. The brigade had attended one chimney fire during the quarter.—An appeal was also received from the brigade for financial assistance, because owing to its social obligations the brigade had a snuill debit of arrears unpaid.—li) regard to finance the board, although sympathetic as to assisting the brigade, could not see its way to increase the latter’s- allowance at this stage. —The report was received and Mr W. U. Albertson’s apDointinont to the brigade was approved. In regard to the poor pressure mains in Ajax road the board decided to write to the council asking that the mains bo put in order by October 15.—A member remarked that in view of the favourable classification enjoyed by Port Chalmers in regard to fire risk it was oulv fair that the mains should be maintained in good order. Accounts amounting to £SO 10s 5d were approved for payment.
